Back to Uni...

I've been a bit naughty and neglecting this blog over Christmas! Hope you all had a very merry festive period.

Last time we spoke I was just getting ready for the Alex Gabrielle Design event, seems like years ago! It was a really fun event and even made an order or two.
I'm back at Uni now and have started drawing for my Final Major Project

I also had a very hectic weekend as I went down to Liberty in London to show my work to the Buyers there as part of their Best of British event. It was so exciting and terrifying!
It was an incredible experience and I'm so glad I went. Although they didn't want my products just yet they did give me some really useful feedback about my work which I will be using in my Major project and so I can take that next year!
They also recommended going to the Isabella Blow exhibition at Somerset House and that was incredible. Loved seeing Philip Treacy's and Alexander McQueen's work up close, I couldn't wait to get making!
(Sadly you weren't allowed to take photos so we have a nice one of Helen outside Somerset House)

Designing Excitement...

I've had a busy week, I've been designing different neckpieces I could make and trying not to put too many pin holes in my drawings...
(No idea why this one doesn't want to be portrait, it did the same on my Facebook page and I've no idea how to fix it lol. I'ts been saved properly, honest)

Heres a leaf to make up for a silly sideways picture...

More Blue Jays...

Been playing with the Blue Jay feathers again, decided to turn them into petals and made a little flower..
It took a while, I thought with it being so small it'd be dead quick but with all the different stripes of colour it was a bit fiddly. This is what it did to my desk haha

Feathers and Flowers

Here are my Blue Jay drawings as promised! It took a while but I kept being a bit dippy and forgetting my camera.
You wouldn't have believed me that the feathers were so tiny so I had to use my trusty Lion King ruler to prove it haha.
This was done in fine-liners and because it's s big it took me forever to fill in.

Now we're up to date (I might have missed the expressive drawing work we did because I was quite shocked at what I produced, interesting mark making but looked nothing like a feather half of the time!) I can show you what I made today. I decided that I might want some smaller flowers on my neckpiece and it's always best to draw first so I made some of varying sizes - all are smaller than my original ones even though I have no Lion King ruler to prove it - to use for design development. These are what I made...

Feathers and Wings and Exciting things...

Been doing a few more drawings at Uni, theres some leaves and feathers that I've been working on the last few days...
And I had a surprise waiting for me when I got home today - I'd ordered some Blue Jay wings off eBay and they'd arrived. How gorgeous is that blue!

Final Year

Just started my final year of Uni, how slightly terrifying!
Spent the last week getting back into the Uni mind set and carrying on with drawing. I've been making Mood boards, Market research boards and Colour boards, decorating my bay and finding a new - and exciting - way of making flowers so the petals curve better
This is just a normal tulip, nothing complicated to explain for once, and you can't really see on the pic how well it worked with the new shape but it does look a lot better.

Feathers and Butterflies

Had another confusing drawing session. I started off easy, I did some butterflies in tissue paper and paper that were just normal colours...
Then I made a feather with the butterfly pattern and then I used the feather with the butterfly pattern but in the colour of yet another tulip. (The black one is tracing paper and got a bit creased in the cutting out stage, oops)
Well, it's not actually that confusing when explained like that lol I think I actually understood myself

Wing-Petals...

As opposed to Petal Wings, 2 completely different things. Wing-Petals are butterfly wings with the pattern of petals instead of petals with the pattern of a butterfly wing. I think I just confused myself lol.
I used another tulip (I got loads of good pics when I went to the Eden Project a few months back) for the pattern of my wings
I used tracing paper which made the wings look a bit more like butterfly wings - more delicate - and I do quite like how it turned out. I'll have to do more like that.

Raining again

Well, at least I'm not missing any good sunbathing time and it means I get more drawing done, yey.
I've managed a Peacock feather and a bunch of leaves so far. The peacock feather's my favourite :)

Butterfly flower

I had a bit of a play today, I was a bit bored of flowers and leaves and butterflies so I decided to put them all together (well, apart from the leaves, sorry for leaving you out leaves) and make a flower with butterfly wings as petals! I used the same structure as the Tulip from the other day as I thought that turned out quite well and it was a lot easier than the Tulip, mainly cos I knew what I was doing this time lol.

The butterfly's wing I chose to use was the Orange Tip Butterfly (named for obvious reasons) because it had a nice pattern and the male and female wing patterns were different enough to look like they were supposed to be different but similar enough to look like they were from the same butterfly - the black and white inner petal-wings are female and the orange tipped outer petal-wings are male.

Flowers are hard to make

Well, the last few days have been a blur of Tulips and Roses. They make making Fuchsia's seem like a piece of cake!
What do you think?

All sorts of excitement...

Been doing some more drawing of leaves and fun things. It was actually quite exciting, I turned some leaves into a butterfly!
And I thought I'd make a Fuchsia flower cos I didn't know how hard it'd be (it was very)

Back to the drawing board...

Well, it's been a while. Sadly I've not been off gallivanting somewhere nice and sunny on holiday, I've not even been sat out in my nice and sunny garden. I've been stuck in drawing and dissertation, fun times. To be honest, I could go do it outside but I'd start sunbathing and get nothing done so I'll show you some bits I have got done...

My Minor Project is gonna be about colour - how it changes and how different people see it - so I decided to do the Pinterest classic and dye some flowers interesting colours. The first pic is when I've just put the flowers in the food dye and the second is when they've been in 3 days...
There was absolutely no change. After 3 days this was all that happened...
I'm not even counting this as a victory cos the one in green dye got pink veins too.

So, I decided to give up on that and draw some proper things - flowers/butterflies/feathers. Here are my faves:

They're done with a load of different stuff, e.g. watercolours, pen, crayon, ink etc. The last butterfly was on tissue paper and looks ace, I need to do some more of those.
