I had a bit of a play today, I was a bit bored of flowers and leaves and butterflies so I decided to put them all together (well, apart from the leaves, sorry for leaving you out leaves) and make a flower with butterfly wings as petals! I used the same structure as the Tulip from the other day as I thought that turned out quite well and it was a lot easier than the Tulip, mainly cos I knew what I was doing this time lol.
The butterfly's wing I chose to use was the Orange Tip Butterfly (named for obvious reasons) because it had a nice pattern and the male and female wing patterns were different enough to look like they were supposed to be different but similar enough to look like they were from the same butterfly - the black and white inner petal-wings are female and the orange tipped outer petal-wings are male.

Flowers are hard to make
Well, the last few days have been a blur of Tulips and Roses. They make making Fuchsia's seem like a piece of cake!
What do you think?

All sorts of excitement...
Been doing some more drawing of leaves and fun things. It was actually quite exciting, I turned some leaves into a butterfly!
And I thought I'd make a Fuchsia flower cos I didn't know how hard it'd be (it was very)

Back to the drawing board...
Well, it's been a while. Sadly I've not been off gallivanting somewhere nice and sunny on holiday, I've not even been sat out in my nice and sunny garden. I've been stuck in drawing and dissertation, fun times. To be honest, I could go do it outside but I'd start sunbathing and get nothing done so I'll show you some bits I have got done...
My Minor Project is gonna be about colour - how it changes and how different people see it - so I decided to do the Pinterest classic and dye some flowers interesting colours. The first pic is when I've just put the flowers in the food dye and the second is when they've been in 3 days...
There was absolutely no change. After 3 days this was all that happened...
I'm not even counting this as a victory cos the one in green dye got pink veins too.
So, I decided to give up on that and draw some proper things - flowers/butterflies/feathers. Here are my faves:
They're done with a load of different stuff, e.g. watercolours, pen, crayon, ink etc. The last butterfly was on tissue paper and looks ace, I need to do some more of those.

The day is Tuesday, the word is Sunshine...
Well, how very exciting. Just finished my first trade show and am exhausted! Been at Harrogate Home and Gift for the past few days, really enjoyed it there and quite fancy doing another.
Had some fun setting up everyone's stuff, turns out I'm quite handy with a drill, but we eventually managed it. We're the stall on the right, the one on the left was called Dassie and they sold some gorgeous stuff - it was all fair trade from South Africa, they had some really nice old wooden chopping boards etc and knitted toys and beer bread (they brought some in and it smelled delicious) - and we kept getting a little distracted looking at their stuff lol.

When it went a bit quite there would be one of the lovely guys from The Wee Tea Company would come round with samples of their teas that were almost nice (and that's from someone who hates tea so for normal people who like tea its probably delicious) and I even bought some so it must have been amazing.
We did get quite a lot of interest too, everyone we spoke to had lots of positive things to say which was great. I even got an order for my big necklace from Lloyd Waters (Haberdashery and Linens) which was very exciting.
The only bad thing was the air conditioning, because it had been soooo hot the air con had to work overtime to keep us cool and it struggled through the Sunday but broke on Monday afternoon! We got loads of fans in our hall which was great but on Tuesday it had broken in a few other halls and the fans couldn't keep it cool enough so the lovely organisers of the show got us some Bucks Fizz and little cakes. We had to sneakily go up to the food stalls and use our code word - Sunshine. I felt like some sort of secret agent lol.
It was a really great experience and I'm so glad our college organised it, hopefully I wont be quite so scared when I do another one for real. Huge thanks to the organisers of the show too, especially Tom who was in charge of our hall, they deserve some Bucks Fizz of their own after the air conditioning nightmare!

Opening Night!
Opening night was really quite exciting, there were so many people looking around and asking about work. There was even some interest in Azadi and the feathers which was good. And, since the show's now public, you can finally see the final thing on here too!
It was such a good night and I'm so glad I got to make the products I did. Huge thanks must go to my tutors and the technicians for actually getting me here and to Mr Brian Bedford for letting me use his amazing song.

The Show...
... I've set it up!
It took all day and was rather stressful (I had to screw and unscrew the contraption I'm hanging my cage from about 5 times and it ended up where it started in the first place) but it's done and ready for Thursday. We're in tomorrow to make the rest of College look as beautiful as our little bit, not sure how we're gonna manage that though.
For now here's a little pic of what out show'll be like...
